The Blue Heron Bridge Hotel & Dive Club

The History of Singer Island
Singer Island’s history is closely tied to Paris Singer, heir to the Singer sewing machine fortune and a key figure in early Palm Beach development. In the 1920s, during Florida’s land boom, he set out to turn the remote barrier island into a luxury resort destination. His plan included two hotels—the Paris Singer Hotel to the south and the Blue Heron Hotel to the north—connected by a 36-hole golf course, with a total investment of about $4 million. Architect Addison Mizner was brought in to design the project, and construction began on the Blue Heron Hotel. To support access, the Sherman Point Bridge was completed in 1925, linking the island to the mainland. The project was never finished. The land boom collapsed, the 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane caused major damage, and the 1929 stock market crash ended development. Only part of the Blue Heron Hotel was built, and the structure stood abandoned for years before being demolished in the early 1940s. Paris Singer died in 1932, leaving his vision unrealized. The bridge evolved, eventually becoming today’s Blue Heron Bridge. A portion of an earlier version remains as a fishing pier next to Phil Foster Park. Today, the Blue Heron name lives on at the Blue Heron Bridge Hotel & Dive Club, located at the base of the bridge on Singer Island. It’s the only resort in the area with direct access to a private beach leading into Palm Beach County’s marine sanctuary. The Blue Heron Bridge dive site is widely recognized as one of the top shore dives in the world. Its calm, shallow waters and artificial reef system attract a wide range of marine life, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced divers. The hotel offers a relaxed, diver-focused experience with comfortable accommodations, water access, and proximity to activities like kayaking to Peanut Island or simply enjoying the waterfront setting. Blending local history with modern coastal experiences, the Blue Heron Bridge Hotel & Dive Club offers a unique way to experience one of South Florida’s most iconic dive locations.

"This small, cozy dive-centric hotel sits right by the water on Singer Island/Riviera Beach, so you’re literally steps from where divers slip into the sea, and snorkelers explore the reef. The vibe here isn’t a big chain resort; it’s more like a relaxed, friendly boutique spot built around ocean access and exploration, perfect if your priority is the water rather than luxury."

"The Blue Heron Bridge in Riviera Beach is one of South Florida’s most unique and rewarding water-based spots, especially for snorkeling, freediving, and scuba diving enthusiasts. It’s not your typical beach swim; instead, it’s a dive into a living underwater world right off the shore of Phil Foster Park."
